Cars Fleet Management

From: "Dina Rotem (h)" dinar@rafael.co.il
Subject: Gen: Cars Fleet Management

Hello to all of you,

We are evaluating the suitability of Oracle Applications for a large organization, including Financials, HR, Purchasing and Inventory. One of the main issues is to find a way to manage a large fleet of company owned cars (thousands). The main requirements include ability to

- Manage the cars stocks and status.
- Managing maintenance activities (either failures, malfunctioning or planned activities).
- Performing maintenance activities in house and by outside processing
- Tracking costs of maintenance activities

I would appreciate any information on vertical solution availability, reference sites, or third party products that could deal with such business.

TIA Dina

One of the components of the enterprise asset management system we are looking for is fleet management software with requirements similar to yours. We currently has Oracle GL and HRMS. I would very much like to know what you find out.

Financial reporting packages

From: Frances_Morrier@concentramc.com
Subject: GL: Management Reporting

We are looking at some add-on financial reporting packages and are interested in any feedback from others on packages/methods. Upper management is looking for reporting that is not achievable with FSG's. We are currently extracting data into Excel and spending a lot of time manipulating and massaging the data to get good presentation results.

It seems that Discoverer doesn't lend itself to very specific financial requirements. We are currently looking at Hyperion, Optio and FRX. Any feedback, input would be appreciated.

You can certainly consider Oracle Financial Analyzer as it is a very good management reporting tool. It is having lot of advantages over the conventional reporting. The User can change the reports to suit their reporting style. You can control the access to the database by the users. You can slice the data and distribute it to the users. You can have Graphs, Work Sheets. It is also very good for Budgeting. Considering all these it is worth a consideration.

Optio is only form printing/faxing/emailing/web-page-posting software. It will solve the presentation part of your problem but it will only take what you give it and change the look of the output. You probably want an analysis tool. I saw a demo of FRX and was very impressed. Oracle Financial Analyzer may do as well.

We use LaserForms Plus on a Sequent running DYNIX/ptx, so while we're not *exactly* the smae platform, we're still both on Unix (are you on release 10.7 or 11?).

We use the product for printing checks from AP, invoices from AR and purchase orders and RFQs from PO. We're in the midst of an HR implementation but to my knowledge, there's no plans to use Evergreen in HR.

Anyhow, I can provide you with some assistance via private email if you choose (don't want to bore the list members with a bunch of set up details, unless others out there need this kind of information).

The basic premise is that you're setting up a printer driver which is calling the lfp executable as a command, then you link that driver plus a style to the printer type and optionally call that style from a concurrent program executable.

I've used various macro products and some are useful for testing (some more than others). I wouldn't use it for data loading because of timing issues. It's easy for the macro to get confused and out of sync.

To load data, use the APIs. They won't let you load every piece of data, but will handle the bulk of it.

High Speed Printers

Hi,

I would like to know if I can get some feedback on what the user community is using for high-speed laser printers. We have a requirement for a laser printer to print SDP reports and invoices, but would prefer not to spend $15K or $20K.

Is anybody using anything that has in input/output capability of 3K+ pages and can do 30+ pages per minute? Preferably, a reliable unit that is "all in one" and doesn't need the optional feeders to give it these capacities.

You can reply to me directly if you wish at dmarsh@genlyte.com .

We implemented BPA software with an Intermec hardware solution. We evaluated the three software vendors you listed, but BPA provided the best integration with Oracle. Additionally, Datanet and Connectware required middleware, whereas BPA did not. Does Vertex - for HR - requires a C Compiler

Hi,
We are getting ready to start the payroll portion of our HRMS implementation and we want to purchase Vertex to supply the tax information. Can anyone please tell me if we also need to purchase a special C compiler to get Vertex to work? I was told in the past it was needed but I am not sure if it is still needed for release 11 or not. Does anyone have any information on this? The representative I spoke to at Vertex, Inc didn't know anything about the compiler.

Thanks for your help,

Bob,
You should check with oracle support to confirm versions etc, but you do need Micro Focus Cobol as well as the C compiler in order to compile and link the Cobol Vertex code with the Payroll C-code. Oracle delivers the Cobol Vertex code as well as the Payroll C-code executable to you directly - the only thing you get from Vertex is the monthly dat file updates. Any problems you detect re: tax calcs etc should be reported to Oracle Support and not Vertex. Hope this helps,

International 3rd Party Payroll Vendors

Subject: [orahrms-l] International 3rd Party Payroll Vendors
From: "Thompson, Jeffery" jthompson@noblestar.com
Date: Wed, 4 Aug 1999 14:01:09 -0400

I have a client who has offices in many different countries that is looking to outsource their payrolls. Many of the countries have a total office staff of about 20 - 30 employees, generally too small to be cost efficient with most of the major third party vendors (ADP, Ceridian, Cyborg, etc.). What the client is looking for is a vendor who can supply payroll processing, system support (implementation, software upgrade/patching, customization, etc.), government reporting, interfacing with Oracle HR and Financials, etc. Two alternate solutions is to bring these countries up on Oracle Payroll or keep with their current manual processing for now. Both of these have extensive lists of issues. So has anyone come across a similar experience and come up with a solution? The first country we're looking to bring up on a payroll system is Singapore.

Software for Check printing in HR

Hi All,
I am collecting some info about various companies check printing approach who are live on Oracle Payroll 10.7 or 11. We are live on 10.7 NCA of Oracle Payroll module since this January. Our checks printing is customised. Basically we use Payroll register to build some temp table which we use in a stored procedure to print the checks on one company's s/w for this very purpose.

I want to use out of the box check writer output from Oracle Check Writer .But not sure which company should we go to for the printing s/w.

Any feedback on this will be greatly appreciated.

Manu (?):

The following applies to both Releases 10.7 and 11. Have you investigated using Optio for Check Printing? This can allow you to use Oracle's standard Checkwriter process while allowing Optio to manipulate the image file output of Checkwriter. Basically, Optio turns that image file into a grid where you can move and alter the individual pieces on the grid. The product is rather flexible. For instance, you can insert a company logo and signature. The biggest gain was that you can print the check number in the MICR format at the bottom of check document. This allows you to use standard printer stock and not preprinted forms.

We've tried several different approaches on past projects; however, the Optio solution is generally the preferred choice from our clients. Feel free to call me if you have any further questions.

Hope this helps,

Hi Ken,
Really thankful to you for the valuable info . Can you pls guide me from where to get more info about 'Optio'. Do you have any contact info about this company or the web site for the same.

Also have a few doubts:
1) When we upgrade from 10.7NCA to 11/ 11i will 'Optio' take care of the change automatically or do we need to invest in something else at that point. If u dont mind will you pls let me know whether you yourself are using this company's solution and whether it is successfully working for you??

2) A bit irrelvant to the above but can somone tell me if an employee has 2 bank info entered for him will he get 2 deposit advice printed for him. We are in the testing process and are getting 2 deposit advices for the person with 2 back details. Is it normal??
