Hi All,
We are running on Oracle Apps 10.7 SC with Oracle server V7.3.4.4 on HP Unix
box.
Currently we are having only one APPL_TOP and against which 3 Production
databases are running.
What all steps we need to do if we want to create one more database for
testing purpose of Oracle Applications.
We dont want to create another database by copying from one of the
production database. We want a fresh database on which we can start working
in Oracle Applications from scratch.
Your input on this matter would be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance.
Regards/Pradeep

If you have a Fresh database backup .. you can start from
that point creating a new instance and then restoring the
datafiles of the fresh database.

hi pradeep,
if u create one more database for testing purposes then u need to create
1.new copy of the appl_top
2.create a new instance of the database.
3.take a complete copy of all the forms, reports and libraries
ideally it is a new installation of APPS.
and u shld probly take a backup of the production instances before u do
this.

Hi,
1.Create a new database (ie. create the parameter file, make sure that the
environment variables point to the new database & then run a create database
script to to create it)
2.Mount it on the 4th instance and open it for use.
2.Run the adadmin to create the environment files.

Hi,
Can you please elaborate more on step - 3 "Run the adadmin to create the
environment files"
What exactly that step would do?

Hi,
I missed one of the step which was given by gopalakrishnan. To create the
tablestructures in apps, you have to take the export of the existing databse (only
the structure not the data in the tables). This has to be imported into the new
database before running adadmin. During the creation of environment file using
adadmin, value for APPL_TOP and destination for log and out files will be
defined. (adadmin will take you through this step).

If you want ONLY the database
Take a complete EXPORT with rows = N.
Hope this will solve your problem

Hi Pradeep,
If I understand your question properly then :
- what you require is a fresh OraApps database with seed data in it for the
required products.
To achieve this :
- Things to do on client side are add another entry in tnsnames.ora and
oaconfig.ora for the new database. Follow whatever you have done for other
two instances you have.
If you don't have a backup or export from your previous installation just
after installation was complete.(Before any user-entry took place) then
follow the steps below. If you have then you can just restore the same with
new db name.
- Things to do on server side :
1. Create new database as per requirements of products. This is a fresh
database and complies to requirements of OraApps installation manual.
2.Do all the steps required(for database only) to prepare environment for a
fresh install as mentioned in Installation manual. (Do all this with
$ORACLE_SID, $TWO_TASK, $ORACLE_HOME environment variables pointing to your
new test database !)
3. When you reach the 'Run AutoInstall' step :
- choose a new adaimgr log file.
- When Autoinstall asks the question : 'You are about to install
apps product tables in your ORACLE database 'apps' using .....'
ensure that the database selected is new one !!!! (This is VERY IMPORTANT -
if you have slightest doubt about this exit installation). If
AutoInstall asks about APPL_TOP, you can safely mention your present
APPL_TOP at this point.
- perform all the steps for 1,2,3 options in AutoInstall Main Menu.
i.e. (select product,select add. modules,choose db parameters)
- for option 4 - choose overall tasks and their parameter : type
'database' at the task prompt, (this will select only tasks which are
required to be done to install fresh database !)
- Check all the tasks which are set with Yes/No choice. You can set
some tasks to 'No' like generate form & message files which are
not required for db.
- Run the Autoinstall as usual henceforth. Ensure that 'APPS' schema
in new database after installation is compiled properly without errors.
That's it your new fresh test database is ready.
Hope this helps you....
Good luck,
