Gopal-
If you are running the NCA version of the applications, I believe 32 megs of
ram should suffice. It has been my experience working with R11 that the
initial sign on to the applications is rather slow, however once in, each
form loaded relatively quickly. That is however until about lunch time when
network traffic increased dramatically with hundreds of people surfing the
net during their break. Because of this increased traffic, the ability to
access the servers was slowed. If you are running on an older network, this
may be a cause of the delay.
If you are running SC, I've found best performance with 48megs+, this way
you can also have other applications open without strain on your system.
I would recommend checking with your System Administrators of the network to
identify peak times in network usage. Also, you can find recommended system
requirements for the applications located in the installation manuals for
the database.

H/w options for Oraapps 11 NCA

Subject: Looking for hardware opinions.
Hi,
We are currently in the evaluation phase for Oracle Applications, probably
Rel. 11 NCA. We are looking at several vendors for the hardware side of
the implementation and have narrowed our search to IBM, HP, and Sun. As
can be expected, each of these vendors are pushing their platforms as the
best thing going.
I would like to get some information from you out there in the "real
world" (not the vendor's world) as to how you see performance on these
systems. If you are using any of the above vendors in your solution,
please drop me a line and give me your impressions on how the hardware
performs, i.e., is your system doing great; do you see yourself I/O bound
or CPU bound; is your disk solution not working; have you changed vendors
due to performance, etc. Also, any impressions on service would be
appreciated.
If you wish to respond to me privately, my e-mail is dmarsh@genlyte.com .
I would appreciate any constructive input any of you might have.
Thanks

Dean
My recent experience is of Sun and Sequent (which you are not considering).
My current client is running a 24/7 operation and has three 20Gb 10.7sc
instances with 80 concurrent users peak with high volumes - so not a big big
deal. As part of the y2k upgrade to 10.7 I have moved them from an Ultra 2
( with boxhill raid) onto a Sun 450 (2*250M sparc - the cheapest processor
option) with an A1000 disk array and a few internal disks. I set it up with
hardware raid5 (single channel to the 450) for the majority of the database
files and raid0+1 for other areas. My experience is that it is a pleasure
to administer (both oracle and unix level) and performs well.
please e-mail if you have any other ?

11 HP/UX - Hardware Configuration

Subject: Release 11 HP/UX Hardware Configuration
Hi,
We currently have OraApps release 11.0.2 installed on our development
server (HP/UX 11.0, HP-K460). The current configuration has that server
performing that tasks of Admin, Application, and Concurrent servers. I'm
drafting a proposal detailing the purchase of additional hardware
components (CPU's and memory) I'll need to upgrade my production apps.
I'd appreciate and configuration and performance information (positive or
negative) from anyone who has upgraded to OraApps release 11.0.x using
HP/UX hardware.
Thanks in advance

We do have apps running on HP/UX for one of our clients I upgraded to
11.0.2 and then 11.0.3 from 10.7. The performance seems to have
improved on 11.0 specially on data fetches but sometimes form fetches
are slow. There can be many things resposible for that. We are still
researching to nail down the constraint. Its all machine & network
specific. We have two HP/UX Boxes D380 single intance (Production) and
D270 (2 instances) with 2 gig & 1.5 GB RAM respectively and 60 GB HDD
on each.

Stay away from the K580 servers. We had no problems either, until we
"upgraded" to K580 servers. 460 and 570 were both no problem. 580's panic at
least once a week, causing server re-boot. Every time they find a different
cause.
