Am trying to turn pegging on for the MPS from the Names/Options screen, am getting message that this Field is protected against update. What do I need to change so that I can turn this function on?

Ann,

This only works for memory based planning. Make sure you have this enabled and have entered 'yes' to it in the felxfield, when defining the plan name.

MRP - promised date vs need by date

Date: Mon, 14 Jun 1999 07:46:37 +0300
From: Eliezer eliezerg@rafael.co.il
Currently the promised date is the date as seen by the planner in the MRP and the need by date is the requested date coming from MRP/INV/manual. Any knowledge regarding the expected arrival date should change the promised date in order to enable full visibility to the planner. Such a change however might mix up the suppliers scorecards (suppliers delivery performance) and the matching between the P/O rev at the buyer & supplier premises because changes in the promised dates do not always mean changes in the contractual dates.

Does somebody have a nice solution for this contradiction? Could the need by date at the P/O be used? (it seems to me that the original promised date is not a solution because you might have more than one change and sometimes the new promised date = the new contractual date).

MRP: Net Change, Replan

From: Nicolas Woollaston NWoollaston@swichtec.co.nz
Subject: MRP: Net Change, Replan

We are currently trying to perform "What-If" analysis using the Memory Based MRP and the Batch Net Change functionality. We would like to simulate the effect of changes to Product Demand etc on the production plan and MRP Exceptions. Is anybody using this functionality presently?

Our environment is DB ver 7.3.4, Apps ver 10.7 on NT and the client ver is 16.1 SC.

Some Questions we need to find answers to are...
1. How do you create or change demand via the MRP workbench suppy/demand form?
2. Can high level (Product) demand be modified and if so, will the low level (Component) demand reflect the changes?
3. Has anyone found good detailed documentation/examples of how to use the Net Change functionality?

Any help would be appreciated,
Sean

MRP: Incorrect Revision when transfer from workbench to Req

Date: Fri, 18 Jun 1999 10:21:48 -0500
From: "Josh Nolte" josh.nolte@asd.bfg.com
Subject: MRP: Incorrect Revision when transfer from workbench to Req

We have an issue that has been an enhancement since ver 10.4, and I was hoping that others had developed viable solutions.

When implementing planned orders from the workbench for subcontract or OSP items, the problem occurs regarding what item revision is transferred to the req pool, and subsequently to the PO when Autocreate is done. We are finding that Oracle pulls the most current revision of an item, even if that item's revision has not yet been implemented. This is remedied for other purchased items by the profile option "MRP:Purchasing By Revision = Yes", but this does not affect OSP or subcontract items. [Reducing ECO cycle time is not an option, due to engineering community] Any system solutions/SQL scripts out there? Thanks in advance.

MRP: Snapshot Monitor / Delete Worker

Date: Mon, 21 Jun 1999 16:11:45 +1200
From: Mark Healey MHealey@swichtec.co.nz
Subject: MRP: SNAPSHOT MONITOR / SNAPSHOT DELETE WORKER URGENT!!!!!

We have had a problem in our production system with MRP;

What is happen when we run our In-Mem MRP the Snapshot Monitor is completing errored, the Snapshot Delete Worker will continue running and never finish. When I investigated the profile settings for MRP I discovered the our MRP: PLANNER WORKERS / MRP: PLANNING MANAGER MAX WORKER and MRP:SNAPSHOT WORKERS where all set to 0.

What I have done is increased these three values to 2 and this has had the following affect. When we launch the MRP In-Mem process the Snapshot Monitor will execute when appropriate and will still complete errored, after looking at the request logs it appears to be timing out. However, now another Snapshot Monitor will fire up and the Snapshot delete worker will complete normal. This continues to happen until the final Snapshot Monitor completes normal and the last Snapshot Delete Worker completes normal also.

I need to know, is it possible that the Snapshot Monitor is error due to a time out on table locks

Is it feasible to assume that when the Snapshot Monitor errors and another Snapshot Monitor fires up that the process is infact continuing on as Normal.

Will the fact the Snapshot Monitor is erring cause the integrity of the data to be in jeopardy.

This matter is urgent as it is in our production system and although our MRP Workbench indicates that the process has completed normal, I need to be assured that the way the processes are performing is completely acceptable. When looking at the MRP_SNAPSHOT_TASKS table the started and completed columns have all completed normal indicating to me that the processes have run fine.

Could you please advise me on this issue.

Also our MRP: BATCH SIZE is set to 750, is this acceptable.

Roll paper ordering by paper design

Date: Mon, 21 Jun 1999 13:13:29 -0500
From: "Robert Lindberg" lindber@wilsonart.com
Subject: MRP - Roll paper ordering by paper design and using MRP to

My company purchases large rolls of paper for use in manufacturing laminate for countertops. The paper comes in a variety of colors and patterns. Paper is ordered by the pound regardless of the width. We often order the same pattern in different widths. Cost savings are acheived through ordering the large amounts of the same pattern. This can be split between the different widths. We would like to be able to use MRP to forecast usage based on usage and inventory of all sizes of a certain pattern.

Has anyone out there come across an issue similar to this? At this point our other option is to write our own MRP module for these items.

Thank you all for taking the time to look at this.

Bob,

From the way you have described it, I figure that the bought out paper of a particular pattern (regardless of the width) would be the primary raw material and hence the component on the last level of the indented BOM. In that case, couldn't it be just that, the primary raw material? You can then forecast the usage at this level.

Hope this helps.

Ravi K.

Kinda sorta. We stock the paper in inventory according to the width. So, if we have 3 different widths we have 3 unique parts. The lowest level of the BOM does contain the appropriate part number. When we forecast need for a particular width we would like to be able to look at similar parts (same pattern, different width) and evaluate their forecast versus on hand amounts to come up with an economical order amount. Roll paper is ordered by the pound so ordering different widths of the same pattern constitute just one part in the eyes of the vendor. Thanks for the quick response. I am fairly new to oracle applications and need a lot of help.

Bob,

You can group all items of the same pattern under a category and then draw a demand vs replensihment report (available in MRP/MPS) by sorting as per category.

Hope this helps

Can MRP plans run in separate organizations concurrently? If not, can they be assigned to different concurrent managers? We are currently running on 10.7SC.
