Hi all, is there a way to have the status of Discrete Jobs be "Released". Version is 10.7

Thanks

Hi Dave,

In 10.7 Character, if you build your WIP Jobs in the Planner's Workbench, you can specify "Released-charges allowed" in the Default Job Status field.

If you are creating them in the 'Define Discrete Job' form, you can quickpick "Released-charges allowed" in the Status field when you create the Job.

If it is your intent to always create WIP Jobs with this Status, you can also make a copy of the form and modify the field to have "Released-charges allowed" as the default.

Yes, under the WIP parameters in the setup, you choose which Status you want as the default. also if you are realeasing work orders from MRP, it uses this default or if you want to change it then set something different in the preferences/Implement As screen

Hope this helps

Creating new items in a Metal processor / distributor industry

Any metal processors/distributors out there? We'd be very interested in talking to you re: how you are handling remnants created during a shearing or sawing operation. Are you creating new items on the fly for each size that you want to save?

Hi Steve,

I do not know about the product type you are talking of nor i am a distributor / processor. I can suggest that you create a subinventory for such remnants and after move transaction, perform Material transaction as WIP component return to those subinventories. Will this help?

Steve,

Unless tracking each size of remnant is necessary, you create one or more (but a mangeable number) of items to deal with remnants. Allow description update for these items. You may record the item size in the description.

Convert job requirements

Subject: WIP question....

Hey Folks,

I am trying to convert legacy work orders into Oracle Apps(10.7SC). We are converting them as Std. Discrete planned Orders.
v My question is,
To convert job info, that is to create std. discrete jobs we have wip_job_schedule_interface but what abt material requirements...it seems there is no wip interface table to convert job requirements info. Do we need to do direct table load or any other interface programs and how they affect inv and gl in onhand qts. and accounting info.

I greatly appreciate for sharing the knowledge.
Thanks in advance

How about the Open Transaction Interface ? You may also look into Move Transactions Interface.

Hi Ramesh,

I think material requirements for a job is taken from the BOM of the assembly being mfgd. Does the BOM exist? Move_transaction interface etc will be required to upload the completion or production status of the job.

Have I understood your question?

Ramesh
When you load your orders in thru the wip_job_schedule_interface at conversion time, this process will take a snapshot of your BOM and Routing for that assembly and place it under the new discrete job number. This will create your material and resource requirements. If the jobs have already started and you need to catch them up, Paul is exactly right.

Either move the jobs manually through the online screens or use the move transaction interface table to catch them up. We chose to load the jobs and then have our factories catch the jobs up by doing the move through the screens. This gave them some added training before going live that Monday morning. Don't forget if you have push material, you will need to issue this material to the job manually or use the mtl interface table.

Backflush

From: "Schmidt, Bob" bschmidt@AAFINTL.com
Subject: WIP: Backflush question

Help - we are in the early planning stages of implementing the WIP module. We do not want to use repetitive schedules or discrete workorders. We want to report production of units as some yet to be defined inventory transaction and have the components relieved as a backflush type operation. Are there setups required that will allow us to do this? Is anything special about the setup of the parts (assembly and component level) that is required? Is there special configuration of the transactions to do this? Any insights would be appreciated even if to tell me where to look for this stuff.

It sounds like you want to Work-Orderless completions. You will also need to implement BOM.

Note: WO-less completions are only available in Rel 11 from what I understand. If you are in Rel 10.7 you will have to set up a discrete work order and move the transaction to consume the parts.

Bob,

The WIP completion transaction allows you to relieve component inventory and increase assembly inventory at the same time. Unfortunately this requires that you complete against an existing job or schedule. Components on the bill of material if you want to backflush at completion should have a WIP supply type of assembly pull. This can be either set on the item, or the bill of material.

The process in 10.7 goes like this:

1) create the discrete job
2) Perform a WIP move transaction to move the assembly to the run of the last operation (if there is a routing)
3) Perform a WIP completion transaction to complete the assembly and backflush the components.

In release 11 it can be a little easier.
1) Perform a Work Order-less completion transaction.

You'll need to set up WIP steps 1&2 to do this.

Otherwise, I'm not sure of any other transactions that will backflush inventory and increase assembly inventory outside of Work in Process.

Good luck with your project.

Overhead Cost

Hi,

Is there any method to charge actual overhead costs to WIP jobs? While performing move transactions overhead charges take place at the standard rate defined in departments that contain the resource. At the end of the year we come to know about the total actual overhead cost incurred. Can the difference between actual and standard be divided among jobs which were executed during that year?

Hi Hirak

No, it well only update the cost of the item. I have faced thesame problem and had to do with period end update of the items. what you can do is to ask your client if he is willing to charge this cost as resource, create it as a charge type "Manual" and for every job enter the amount you want.

If you find any other way, please let me know

Reopen accidentally closed Discrete jobs

Subject: RE: Closed Discrete Jobs

Hi,
Yes, there is a way to "unclosed" a discrete job. In 10.7 16.1SC the menu path is:

Work In Process:Discrete:Close Discrete Jobs:Close Discrete Jobs (Form)

- or -

Cost:Discrete:Close Discrete Jobs:Close Discrete Jobs (Form)

Query up the job in question, click on the Special drop down menu and select "Unclose 1".

One important note: once a job is closed you cannot collect any more costs on it even if you re-open it:

i.e. Any transactions done against that job after it has been closed and re-opened you will not be able to collect those costs for that job.

I hope this helps. Candace

hi grace,

this was the response i got from Oracle when i had logged a TAR on this 6 monts back. this was for 10.6 :

Unfortunately there is not Oracle built in function to reopen accidentally closed discrete jobs. However we have some guidelines where we could help customer to do this via SQL. Here's a method we adopted to reopen all the accentedly closed orders by date. You may have to modify the script to suit the requirements. This is not a supported standard functionality by Oracle WWS. So care should be taken as we will not take any responsibility in the event something goes wrong.

This is only a guidelines. First test this in the customer's Test System before applying it in their PRODUCTION environment.
____________________________________________________________

Limitations:
---------

1. Customer should NOT have performed CostUpdate after the job closure.
2. Customer should NOT have closed Inventory Accounting period after this.
____________________________________________________________
Data needed from customer: ACCIDENTAL CLOSE DATE . Ex: '03-SEP-98'

Actions to TAKE:

1. Take Backup of the tables getting affected.
2. Run the pl/sql script 'wip_djuncls_1.sql' First.
3. Run the pl/sql script 'wip_djuncls_2.sql' next.

For example, if the first resource is a kit operation and takes 3 hours per lot, and is in a department with shifts that begin at 6:30am, the first step will be scheduled to run from 6am to 9am, regardless of whether the WO start time is 00:00.

If the first resource is in a department that is scheduled with 24hr = Y, then the scheduling program will start the three hours at midnight, and the following resource (assuming it is shift driven) will begin at 6:30am
