Subject: reports access problem with ADI

I'm having problem with ADI 5.0 being able to access logs and reports from requests. requests can be submitted via ADI, but not read unless user is within apps itself. I get an error message about not being able to establish an applications file server connection. I've probably missed a setup step(s). suggestions on where to look?

I had the same problem with an earlier release of ADI.

The solution was to make sure that the contents of the SQLNET.ORA file were up to date. I had to get a new copy of the file from my DBA.

This file resides in \ORAWIN95\NETWORK\ADMIN directory if you are running Windows95.

Good Luck, Dhiren

Make sure that your TNSnames.ora file has the report viewing agent (FNDFS) in it. Take a look at your TNSNames.ora file on your server. The report viewing agent component needs to be in the TNSnames.ora file on your client.

Hope this helps, Richard

ADI Documentation

Dale,
ADI manuals are available in hard copy up to and including version 4.1. ADI 5.0 has the manuals online. When you install the product it creates icons for the Installation Guide, Tutorial and Users Guide. These manuals are in pdf format.

ADI and Journal balancing

Subject: ADI + Excel sum issue

All,
We're using ADI Version 5.0 on Windows NT environment, GL rel 10.7SC, Prod 16.1. We just recently loaded the software on a bunch of users machines and they seem to have a problem when they go to upoad journal. They input information or cut/paste info onto journal template worksheet and entry appears balanced to the 2 digit decimal point level and to the human eye.

However, when they go to upload, ADI gives a warning that entry is not balanced and that ADI will setup balancing entry to suspense to fix out of balance situation. If they then say OK/yes to continue upload and then go view the entry, there is no suspense. Does anyone know why this is happening? I have seen this issue before but not with the same volume.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sue

Sue there is a cumulative patch for ADI 5.0. You may want to get it from Oracle.

We have seen this in our installation as well. Usually one of the following reasons:

(1) users keyed dollar amounts with more than 2 positions after the decimal point or are using a calculation which calculates a number with more than 2 positions after the decimal point. Users should fix their entries and round any calculations to two decimal places.

(2) Normal Excel calculation rounding error. You may notice in Excel (without ADI) when doing sums that numbers do not round correctly (ie. when you think a sum should zero and the cell is marked as 0.00). Sometimes these rounding errors can creep into the sums. I've done some testing today and couldn't make this happen.

We've told our users to upload anyway if the totals on the dialog box show a $0.00 variance.

YTD Budget figures not appearing on GLDI report

Subject: GL - GLDI

Hi All,

We are using GLDI Report wizard to create our monthly management reports . In one of the column sets we are using an amount type -- YTD-Budget(FY End) . However, when submitting the report no amounts are being picked up. We did budget for all 12 period in that fiscal year but still the output does not pick up any amounts.

Any thought on why?? Or how we actually show the full year's budget on our reports?

We are running 10.7 NCA

Is your control value set up in the FSG to reflect budget data? This is likely the problem.

I think any column that will have budget figures needs to have a budget defined for it. Since you can have numerous budgets, you have to indicate which one you wish to report on.

Tried to send this response to the list but it won't let me...anyway I had the same problem.

Do you have an adjusting period as period 13? If so, even though you might not plan on budgeting to this period, you must include it in your budget definition. There is a patch (554992 - client and 732432 -server) which gives the capability of either using the adjusting period in budgets or not. Either way though, the adjusting period must be the last period when you define your budgets or so I am told.

ADI Installation

Subject: ADI installation error

Hello,

We are trying to install ADI ver 5.0 on several desktop PCs in a more efficient manner. We have had success installing ADI 5.0 using a plug in serial stand alone CD ROM device. The problem with this option is that it takes time having to install the CD ROM on each PC. We recently were trying a new idea of installing the ADI software on remote desktops using a dedicated PC with a built in CD ROM. Our finance department PC group is on a novell network (100/10) and we configured the dedicated PC on the network with a CD rom to allow the CD rom to be shared by other PCs on the network. The installation on the remote desktop works fine up to about 75% complete and then we get the following error: "ADI30.INS(266) OS_error". We have tried installation on two different PCs and have received the same error at about the same time during installation. Any insight into what we are doing wrong is appreciated. (PS - We are using Oracle 10.7SC Prod16.1)Thanks

Marc,
Don't know if this will help but we recently ran into a similar issue. We too are on 10.7sc, prod 16.1. When we put cd on network drive, we went from PC to PC and did installs from network. However, we ran into severl issues, especially when the CD got to the point of installing the request center options. Sometimes we had to log off machine, reboot and then try install again. It would pick up where it had left off and then finish OK. Other issue I've seen is that now, we thought everything was installed but some users are having problems with Request Center options and we need ot re-install. So I know I haven't given you much of a solutin but wanted yo uto know our experience and how we worked thru it. Good luck.

Since you are on a Novell Network you probably have ZEN Starter pack. This utility takes a before/after snapshot images of your installation (including registry settings) and creates a automated installation which you can download automatically to all your PCs.

Journal Wizard errors on upload of JE but no warning is given

From: "Nigbor, Sara (snigbor)" snigbor@sequent.com
Subject: ADI 5.0 and Journal Wizard

Folks -

Am wondering if the following scenario is 'standard functionality' or if there is something in the setups that we haven't done correctly. We are on ADI 5.0 and Release 11.02 of the apps.

The situation is this:

1) User enters information into the Journal Entry spreadsheet in ADI
2) User then goes to do an 'Upload to Interface' with Full Validation
3) All seems to be well, a little smiley face appears on all of the entries in the spreadsheet and Request Manager says that the request completed
4) User goes into the Oracle App - Journal Post Screen and cannot find any of their entries.

Now, it turns out if you go to Help/View My Requests and then View the Output log for the request that was submitted by ADI, the job completed successfully but there was indeed a validation error -
INVALID REV/COGS ACCT SEGMENT COMBINATION. This resulted in none of the line items from the spreadsheet to appear in the Journal Post/Entry screen in the app.

So my question.....why did ADI say everything was ok??? Is this normal functionality? Has anyone else experienced this? It is a bit misleading for the user.

Thanks.

Sara,

You should check the following profile options in you SYS Admin module:

Flexfields: Validate on Server. If you want cross validation rules checked before import, set to "YES"

Full validation will only validate journal data, journal category, journal source, currency, date and other journal fields where a list of values is available. It won't check cross validation unless the above profile option is set to YES.

Also verify that your GLDI: Force full validation is set to YES.

Hope this helps.

We had a similar problem on 10.7SC. However, be aware that setting this profile option to yes could cause other problems. We had TWO.

Once the profile was set to YES, AP could no longer record invoices to the AP Liablity account and also it prevented any transactions from the Inventory module from being created.

So... please do extensive testing before switching this option.

Define Security through Profile Options

Subject: ADI 5.0 Profile Options Security

Hi,

I am working on defining security for ADI 5.0 using profiles options. I have had success in defining and implementing the profile security "GLDI JOURNAL SOURCE". Currently am focusing on the profile: "GLDI CREATE GROUP ID". It is my understanding that enabling this option will allow Oracle to generate a group ID during journal upload? I have created this profile using Application Developer security using Oracle 10.7SC Prod 16.1. I have tested this new profile using ADI and journal upload and have had no success in getting it to work. I still continue to get a blank group ID reference when referring to either the Report in "view my request" on an import of journal with a bad GL code or when viewing the submit process journal import parameters box. When reading the install notes, there is a reference to updating the "GL_LOOKUPS" table. Most specifically the "GLDI_TRACKING" lookup type. Where do I navigate to do this and under what security?

When I was setting up security for ADI 4.0 I spoke to Oracle Support and was told that certain ADI functions do not operate in the 10.7 release because the functionality behind them was coded to the 11.0 and later release. Oracle Support may be able to give you more specifics about which functionality is not available until you upgrade to 11.x.

Alive Code Combos being considered by ADI as expired

From: "Rusty Kimbrell" RKimbrel@pgahq.com
Subject: PROBLEMS WITH ADI(gldi)

I have two journals in ADI that keep telling me I have two code combinations that have expired. Indeed when these two where put in the Code Combination had an end date on it. So I removed the end date and enable the combination again, I had the user sign out and sign back on and I verified that all the segments were enabled. But no luck it still tells me that the code combination has expired.

So I went to the application and through the enter journals form entered the journal and it passed the edits and posted fine.

What is the problem with ADI, anyone got any suggestions for next time?

By the way it is pointing to the right instance( I thought it may have been pointing to test by accident but it isnt)

any and all answers appreciated

Rusty,
We recently ran into something similar, where we tried to upload a journal where 4 account combinations were invalid. We fixed the errors and tried to reload several times but we kept getting the same error.

All I did was to go into Journal Import and see if I could find my original "bad" uploaded journal. When I did, I deleted it and then the upload worked fine.

Retrieve files from server to print - cannot

I have the following questions regarding ADI that I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with. Here goes...

1. Journal Wizard appears to be working correctly once we got the tnsnames.ora file straightened out and the validate on server set to YES. Now we have a problem (actually I think this problem has always been in existence) with getting a report to publish or basically anything where ADI has to retrieve the file from the server. The message appears 'RETRIEVING LOG FILE FROM SERVER' and then eventually times out and the user receives the following error message from Request Center:
'An error occurred while attempting to establish an Applications File Server connection'

What could be causing this??

2. Is there a way the user can change their journal entry template...ie Change the Column Name from Cost Center to CO and decrease the width of the column??

Thanks in advance!!

Sara,

You say your TNSNAMES file is straightened out. If you don't have an FNDFS entry in that file and your LISTENER.ora on the RDBMS Server, do an OraApps Archive Search http://www.cpa.qc.ca/Lists/OraApps-L/Search for FNDFS and you'll find all the good stuff about FNDFS there to solve your problem.

If you DO have your FNDFS stuff set up, then check your Registry (assuming Win95) ORACLE_HOME entry and be sure it is pointing to your ADI Oracle Home (and NET20 to ADI Home/NETWORK...).

I had a little problem where the ORACLE_HOME Registry Entry had been changed to point to a different 32-bit Oracle Home for some other Desktop App, and even though the NET20 entry was still pointing to the ADI home/NETWORK, I got the error you described.

Changing the one ORACLE_HOME entry to point to the ADI ORACLE_HOME "on the fly" and the file transfer works (no need to leave ADI). I have not had a chance to see what it is about the other 32-bit Oracle Home that it doesn't like, since I thought the TNS/Listener/FNDFS stuff was all determined by NET20.

So I just have 2 little Registry files on the user's desktop which simply redefine the ORACLE_HOME entry. Like you said, he can do everything with ADI except for File Transfer stuff. So I told him to just double-click "on the fly" on the "ADI Registry" file to quickly redefine the ORACLE_HOME whenever he gets the error.

Pardon me piggy-backing this one, but does anyone know the little secret behind this ORACLE_HOME/NET20 Registry deal?

FYI and Thanks,
Chris

1) FA assets upload after extract from legacy.

2) Report Xchange.

Jean-Guy,
We have 4.2 in production and I have just finished testing 5.0. We have had problems with the Request Centre in 4.2, but they seem to be rectified in 5.0.4 (with the patches).

We have used 4.2 to upload FA and it has worked successfully. The Request Centre is great for submitting reports, especially FSG's, as they give a more professional output. We have one department that submits all the FSG reports from the Request Centre, and publishes them to MS Excel. The resulting spreadsheets are easier to work on than the report imported from Oracle applications.

We are using Oracle 10.7 NCA GUI on a SUN Solaris with NT4 as the operating system. We are using MS Excel 97, and that does cause problems as our users work with multiple workbooks open.

We have been using GLDI for three years, and this is now a major part of our daily business. It has some gotcha's in particular when upgrading from one version to another, but we have been able to work around these with the help of other very knowledgeable users on this forum.
