Cheque not being printed

Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 03:19:06 PST
From: "senapathy srinivasan" senapathy_s@hotmail.com

Hi, We are on 10.7 GUI. I was just trying out the Cheque Printing process in the AP Demo using the WELLSUS USD Account. I went into the Enter / Adjust Invoices Button, selected the Invoice I wanted to pay using a Quick Check. I selected the Invoice and Supplier, saved, then went into the Actions Button and Selected the Print Now Option and specified a printer. The Format Payments Program ran successfully. However no output goes to printer and hence no Cheque printout emerges. I had then checked the status of the concerned Invoice, and it had been paid. What could be the problem. I am attaching the Request Log File.

Thanks Senapathy

Does the destination printer print other jobs from Oracle apps correctly? Do other jobs use the same print style and driver in Oracle applications? The printer configuration may not be correct. Check the print queue to see whether the jobs are paused or a printer error has caused all jobs to pause in the queue.

Hi, Seems that the Cheque Printing Program was spewing some control characters. The request to print the cheque was reaching the print queue all right, but the presence of these control characters caused the queue to fail, which meant that the cheques never got to the printer. We are working on how to solve this problem.

We are using form feeds (pre printed cheques) for our payments. Is the Evergreen Form Feeds program the right one to use. I understand that some changes need to be carried out on the cheque printing program to take care of our organisational requirements.

Thanks Senapathy

Are you in the process or have you just completed an upgrade? We are experiencing the same control characters at the top l corner of the

page when we do the check printing. Actually, it looks like all of our reports have control characters like X;+- .

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Dave

We had the same problem after the upgrade to 10.7. Uncheck the "Standard Input" box in your printer driver will fix it.

Checks being printed twice

From: Dan Olson [SMTP:dolson@dacotah.com]
Sent: 26 March 1999 15:33
Subject: AP check printing - sys admin

About 50% of the time our batch check printing of checks attempted to print the batch twice. I have checked the output file and it contains only a single copy of each check, and the report copies was listed as only 1 copy.

We are using 10.7/16.1 GUI on Digital Unix 4.0b and Server 7.3.3.5.

Has anybody else had this happen? I am assuming that it is either a network problem (only occurs at our remote site over a T1), or a printer problem (only happens on one printer - but it's the only one setup for laser checks right now).

Does anyone know if there is a way to tell lpr not to re-send on failure? Or is this a case where it is actually related to the size of the file (but under 1000 pages)?

Thanks, Dan Olson SPF Energy Inc.

This will be dependant on the Digital implementation of the UNIX spooler. On Solaris there is an option with the lpadmin command used to create the printer to specify fault recover to be one of continue, beginning or wait. Check with your UNIX admin or lpadmin equivalent command

Format problem

Subject: AP: Check Printing

Hi All,

I am trying to print my checks on pre-printed stationary on EPSON FX 1170 with continuous stationary option. First check print goes fine (according to my format) but after that it prints 1 line above the actual one.

I have tried to set rows in the style and in the prt file both. Same result. I am using STANDARD CHECK FORMAT for this printing.

We are using Financials 10.7 SC (Character base) on Solaris.

TIA

After changes are made to print drivers you must bounce the concurrent managers for the changes to take affect.

Hi Dominic,

I have restarted the concurrent manager several times after changing the driver. Still it is printing in the same old way only. Does Dos print command use any specific driver files in DOS os?.

Thank you.

Printing checks throws blank checks

Date: Thu, 08 Jul 1999 11:01:08 -0700

Subject: printing checks

Hi All,

We print checks on preprinted check stock using a HP 3SI. When we test with regular paper everything works fine. When we use the check stock one check comes out blank, throwing off the numbering sequence. This blank page isn't stuck to another page, it comes out of the printer at a regular interval but with nothing on it.

I think this is problem with the printer and the weight of the paper. So my question is: What kind of printers are people using with preprinted forms?

Thanks, Catherine

Hi Catherine,

If you get blank pages at regular inteval, it is very unlikely a problem with the printer or the weight of paper. Check the number of lines of the Format Check concurrent program and make sure it matches the line number of the print style and print driver. You can also try using a form feed at the end of each cheque so it doesn't depend on the line count.

Good luck!

Check printing - left margin

Date: Mon, 12 Jul 1999 20:04:49 EDT
From: "Suresh Pillaipakkam Bagukkudumbi" sureshpb@hotmail.com
Subject: Check Printing Problem in AP

Hi,
I am trying to print checks using APXPBFEG.rdf without any customization using Evergreen Forms (Continues Stationary). Although the printing part has been done, I am facing a problem in moving the contents to the left. I want to give the left margin value as 2. The output file does not have any margin, but while printing the printer (HP Laserjet 5si) is giving some default left margin. While the old (10.5 Character version) is printing the report using a initialization string without any problems, the new (10.7 GUI) on AIX is not able to get rid of the left margin.

Can any one suggest me a initialization string!!

One more problem, if I give any initialization string in the GUI version the printer prints the inititalization string as it is except for escape (\e) and ampersand (&).

Thanks P B Suresh

When the initialization string shows on the page it means the string has not been properly entered. In GUI the string should be highlighted, deleted, and re-entered. Do not cut and paste into the field. As far as modifying the margin, you need to refer to the HP PCL configuration parameters and modify the initialization string accordingly. You should contact HP and request the faxback document.

Hope this helps!

Hi! I encountered this problem in setting up printer init strings. What I found it that the GUI forms use a different character set compared to the character mode screens. Most printer manuals expect that you are using 7 bit USASCII. If you key in any non alpha-numeric character you are likely to get rubbish.

Example the Epson ESCP/2 command to reset the printer according to the manuals is: {ESC}@ (that is escape curly-at). This works if you key it in the Char mode form but gives you funny results in GUI.

This is because the actual printer code is ESC + CHR(064). CHR(064) is "@" in ASCII7 but the GUI uses a different NLS_LANG so if you type in "@" in the GUI you actually are typing in something else.

I found that the safest method is to use the escape syntax in keying in printer init strings. e.g. for {ESC}@ I would type in "/e/064" where /nnn is the three dec character string CHR() representing the "@" character in the USASCII7 charset.

Now for another question.

Both the printer styles and printer driver windows have a field to specify the SRW printer driver (e.g. P, L, W etc). Then you assign combinations of drivers and styles to printer types.

How do the specified SRW drivers interact in the style/driver combination? One of the documents recently referenced in ORA-APPS suggests the the SRW driver must be the same in each style/driver combination. Does anybody have anything definitive on this?

Signatures not being printed on checks

Does anyone have experience setting up Evergreen Format check printing. We have received and installed the HP DIMM w/ the signature, entered the esc sequence into the program initialization string APXPBFEG. The escalation point went away, but still no signature. I opened a TAR w/Oracle - they seem clue less.

Any help? Dave

I recall having to run some scripts to update the data. I did it about 2 years ago. They (Evergreen) had sent some pretty detailed instructions and we just followed them. Evergreen support was also pretty good. Have you tried calling them?

I would imagine not. That is only a guess though. I have always implemented the signature features through the proprietary vendors cartridge (Evergreen, Bottom-line, etc.) Does HP say it will work with the Evergreen format? Please let us know.

Issue resolved! Thanks for those that responded -

Here is what worked -
Edit escape sequences in $FND_TOP/reports/APLASP.prt (driver for laser check printing using evergreen format) per HP's note that accompanied the DIMM and then add an "S" right after the sequence including the double quotes.
