Variance Accounts in PO

Date: Thu, 25 Mar 1999 11:44:06 +0100
From: Anand.Tondapu@gemplus.com
Subject: FlexBuilder -PPV

Flexbuilder constructs VARIANCE account in PO. As per my knowledge this account is Purchase Price Variance (PPV) account. What about Invoice price variance (IPV) account?

We have requirement that Flex builder should generate different PPV and IPV accounts depends upon our rules. Is this possible with Flexbuilder functionality?

Thanks in advance for your feed back. Regards, Anand.

Account Generator using Flexbuilder Upgrade Option

From: rholm@Estee.com [mailto:rholm@Estee.com]

Subject: FA:Account Generator using Flexbuilder Upgrade Option

I'm looking for success stories/failures in attempts to upgrade from 10.7 to 11.0(.2) and using the Flexbuilder upgrade option of account generator. We have a 9 segment COA with segments 2-4 being the qualified segments. Support has had little offer in getting this to work. We are considering building our own account generator, but would prefer, for the time being, using the rules we developed using good old Flexbuilder. Right now this is not working at all.

Could you please relate any experiences (positive or negative).

Raymond,
We went through the same problem and after working with Oracle Support for over 4 weeks came to the conclusion that rebuilding the rules was faster that trying to upgrade. We ended up rebuilding our flexbuilder rules(PO,Project Supplier Invoice, and FA) in Account Generator in 1 week. I have heard from several consultants within Oracle and KPMG that the flexbuilder upgrade from 10.7 to 11.0.2 is impossible, from what I have seen I would agree.

Hi Raymod,
Just keep away from the Upgrade option. We did this long back in NOvember and found out that there is no way the upgrade works. Ofcourse no one will give a written statement but we found the easiest way was to redo the customization (FLexbuilder rules) in Account Generator in Release 11.

We had only a problem with the FA stuff, though - no problems with PO and PA for some reason.

Anyway the best way to go is redo in Account Generator. It is different from the way Flexbuider was setup and deifned, but it is graphical and after a while of getting used to it actually seems easier!

Another thing I must warn you about is that almost all patches that are WorkFlow related will overwrite your customizations (atleast I know that for a fact with regard to FA). However, I did not see a problem with some of our rules in PO.(I do not know if these were seeded rules or customizations)

As an example we did an upgrade from 11.01 to 11.02 and the customizations were overwritten. We also were tryinga nother patch from Oracle last week and we were told that the customizations would be overwritten.

I think e should (or MUST) ask Support the question that if we are told to apply any patch and it seems to be for any workflow related process - if it overwrites the customizations we make.

I believe you could avoid the customizations being overwritten by patches by checking the "Preserve Customization" box and setting the access levels on the Access tab in the Properties of any WF items.

Another way to save your customizations is to save them in a flat file on your hard/netwrok drive and upload them back into the database after a patch is applied.

Flexbuilder Vs Account Generator in Rel 11

Subject: v11 questions

In version 11.3, the flexbuilder forms are available but it is recommended that these forms not be used for a fresh install of v11. the version 11 equivalent is account generator .

Flexbuilder set up should only be used for a migration from 10.7 to 11. So the questions from my colleagues in France/Singapore are (after the flexbuilder forms and set ups has been done in v11)

- Can flexbuilder be used going forward or should it be account generator. ?

- If we must use account generator, can the autoinstall for migrating to v11 be run to pick up these set ups into the account generator ?

- what could be the impact(s) of this manual set up of flexbuilder if any ?

Please respond direcly to myself at myriam.azzedine@gemplus.com.

I have worked on couple of projects as technical lead where they have migrated from 10.7 to 11.0.3. The oracle's autoinstall process automatically upgrades you to Account Generator. In your "Account Generator Processes" Form you need to make sure that you are using the process "Generate Account Using Flexbuilder Rules" instead of default. In some cases the autoinstall is not able to transfer your flexbuilder rules in ver 11. There is a complete procedure in "Applications Upgrade Manual" on how to manually generate the rules. Specially on 11.0.3 oracle has merged some processes which has resulted in some inconsistency and you may need to apply couple of patches if you see some problems.

Code Combinations - delete

Subject: General Ledger Accounts

I have a user that has created about 70 New Accounts and wants them deleted. They have no balances and the accounts enabled_flag= N. Is there any reason that I can not deleted them from gl_code_combinations table. I am concerned if I do there will be missing code_combination_id. First of all should I worry about this???? Second is there anything else I should be concerned with???

Thanking you in advance

Hi
I think there is nothing to cause to worry. The disabled accounts would not allow any posting. If the combination screen access is denied to users, they cannot enable it and use these accounts. While defining your segments in your accounting structure, you must have enabled Allow dynamic inserts = Y

Then all the valid values of the segments will be taken and account combination will be generated. These combinations cannot be deleted. They can only be disabled.

If you want to be still secured, use cross-validation rules to eliminate these accounts. Then they will not be visible on the combination screen even. Ideally cross-validation rule definition should precede segment value definition, so that the combinations are not generated at all. If disabled by cross-validation rule, the combination will still show. Anyway it cannot be used. So no cause for worry.

I don't think there's any harm in deleting them, just double check to make sure that they haven't been used anywhere else.

1) This will tell you where accounts are used.

select c.owner
, c.table_name
, c.column_name
from dba_tab_columns c
, dba_tables t
where c.column_name = 'CODE_COMBINATION_ID'
and c.owner = t.owner
and c.table_name = t.table_name

2) Then check the results of the above to make sure that the CODE_COMBINATION_ID of the new accounts haven't been used in any other places.

Modification of Numbering Scheme of Segments

From: "Anderson, Darren" daanderson@unitrin.com
Subject: Information on GL Numbering Scheme Modifications for 10.7 NCA Sho

SCENARIO

We are in Production with AP, PO, FA, GL. About 5 years ago we choose to assign blocks of 10,000 for segment3(our dept) to each company. When we originally assigned blocks of numbers for certain companies we thought we had a good plan, but it turns out that assigning the large blocks of numbers has caused us to run out of blocks of numbers.

For example: Under the CURRENT plan
Company A - would get 1 through 10,000
Company B - would get 10,001 through 20,000
etc..
etc..

We would like to convert our history and current activity to use a smaller block of numbers. For Example:
AFTER THE CONVERSION
Company A - would show using 1 through 2,000
Company B - would get 2,001 through 4,000
etc..
etc..

Does anyone know where I could find some white papers that talk about how to modify the numbering scheme for the GL Account(Segment3) for their history and current activity transactions.

Convert existing Number Schemes

Date: Mon, 2 Aug 1999 16:13:42 -0500
From: "Anderson, Darren" daanderson@unitrin.com
Subject: Has Anyone Converted their existing Oracle GL Numbering Schemes

I am looking to talk with anyone who has converted part/all of their GL numbering Schemes after already being in Production with GL. We have not ran out of numbers, but we do have a 5 yr old business rule where we had assigned large chunks of numbers to different companies. We now want to go back and reduce the size of the blocks of numbers for segment 3(dept for us) assigned to each company to better facilitate more companies being added on. This new planning would call for us to convert any references to segment 3(dept for us) to the smaller schemes.

Please contact me directly if you have any been through this before or have documentation/advice/words of wisdom.

Segment Hierarchy Report

Subject: GL: Report for segment hierarchy

Hi All, Is there any standard rpeort to get segment hierarchy in GL , with details of parents and their immediate children(which can be a parent) ? The standard reports- "Chart of Accounts - Rollup Detail Listing" and "Chart of Accounts - Rollup Range Listing" give roll up details with parents and detail level children not immediate children.

Unfortunately, such a report is not avaialble. But, if you are on 10.7 GUI, you can see such a relationship in the Account Hierarchy editor. This can give you the hierarchial view of the parent-children in two forms, vertical and horizontal.

You might want to try that.

Hi

Yes you can add attribute columns to the app tables. Only one thing that needs to be taken care is when DFF's are compiled and frozen they create views based on the attribute names defined, when you add addtional attribute columns check whether the compilation completes in Normal.

Radhakrishna,

Technically you can add any columns you want. However, as with any such modifications to base code/tables, Oracle Support is not going to support it and, in fact, is going to actively discourage it (as would I). I would carefully examine your business reasons for creating the additional columns and, if necessary, add a separate table with the same primary key that contained the additional Attribute columns you want. This would depend on exactly what you are trying to accomplish here from a business point of view. Before making any decisions about this, I would investigate the context-specific flexfield capabilities of Oracle. You may discover that context-specific fields will answer your needs.
