Does installation of Oracle's Financial Analyzer effect performance? If so,
what is the recommended solution to prevent performance problems?
Thanks,

Yes, OFA will affect the performance of any other application running on the
same machine, the hammer is just so big. If your question is what will it
to the Oracle General Ledger the answer is very little as long as OFA and
the express data base are on a different box. The real key to OFA
performance issues come when you are solving a cube. The express database
by design wants to use all the CPU and all the memory. If Express and the
Oracle Database are on the same machine one or the other is going suffer.
By careful scheduling of the solves impact between the databases can be
avoided.
FRx vs. Financial Analyzer

Subject: OFA: Anyone familiar with FRx vs. Financial Analyzer
Although I am not very familiar with FRx my understanding of their product
is that it has predefined reports that work with the Oracle General ledger
as well as other financial packages. There reports go against the On-line
Transaction Processing database (OLTP) with all of the issues that are
associated with working in this environment.
OFA on the other hand has a totally separate OLAP (On-line Analytical
Processing) database, Express, that has to be loaded from the OLTP on a
periodic basis. OFA has no standard reports or formats with it but does
have the interface between Oracle GL and OFA very well defined.
There is a panel discussion at the OAUG meeting in San Diego that you should
attend that might help with many of the questions that you have. This panel
is scheduled for April, 19 at 11:00AM.

Hi folks...
Anyone familiar with FRx? And how it might compare with OFA?
I would especially like to hear from some users of either package to chat
with
off-line.
Since we will probably be installing OFA, I would love to hear of any major
stumbling blocks in implementing it.
Thanks...

OFA Configuration

Subject: OFA Configuration?
We are installing OFA for the first time and would like to understand how
other companies configured their system. We our running Release 10.7
SC16.1 of the Applications on an IBM RS6000/SP server (AIX 4.2).
We do not need to use thick client mode at this time. We will be
installing the Shared Component of Express Server on the AIX box. The
questions relate to which components should be installed in UNIX or NT.
Specifically,
1. Should the personal databases be installed in the same instance as the
shared database (Thin Client)?
2. If not, Should the personal databases be installed on a UNIX or NT
server (Thin Client in a cluster)?
3. Depending on the method selected above, Should the Oracle Financial
Analyzer Server be installed in UNIX or NT?
I would appreciate any assistance on this and any helpful suggestions you
may have.
Thank You,
Ty Nelson

Since you will be running the express server on the Unix box you will want
the shared database as well as any thin client personal databases on the
same server instance. A thin client user will be accessing the shared
database in read only mode with read/write to their personal database. You
will also want to install the OFA server side on the unix box as well.
