10.7 NCA and 10.7 Character - how well do they coexist

From: "Knowles, Karin" kknowles@bc.pitt.edu
Subject: 10.7 NCA and 10.7 Character

We upgraded to 10.7 char in May to become y2k compliant and are in full production. We are preparing to roll out at 10.7 NCA pilot to a subset of our users to test the waters in a GUI/web-enabled environment. We have had conflicting information as to how well 10.7 NCA and 10.7 character co-exist together. Does anyone have any experience with running these two applications at the same time?

Our current configuration in a developoment environment has the Web server/Apps server on the same physical machine as the database server(Unix Sun Solaris 2.6); it's most likely that the configuration will be modifed to have the web server/apps server on a separate machine, but that's not been determined.

Thanks for any input.

Subject: 10.7 NCA with Char

Someone awhile back asked if anyone has had any problems running NCA with Character.

We just started in Aug. using 10.7 Character and 10.7 NCA. We use GL,AR, AND AP.

So far these are our problems.

1. The character form gives you an error if you try and change the profile option of "Concurrent:Request Start Time". However you can do it with NCA forms. This was just noticed yesterday so we are still investigating.

2. AR- The character form no longer will let you complete a credit memo that is against an invoice on a Commitment(Against a draw down invoice). Hopefully this explains it well enough for you to test on your system as I am not an AR person. The form works fine in NCA and Oracle has stated since it works in NCA they will not fix th character one.

3. AR- Journal Entries Report Errors. -- After 4 patches from Oracle we finally, yesterday, got one that fixed the problem.

Hopefully we don't run into any other problems. We plan on being total NCA in Jan., so the minor problems will not be a big issue for us as long as one of the environments work.

Thanks Janet, that was very nice of you!!

There may not be a whole lot of interest in this since most have gone GUI, but I believe there are still at least "a handful" of us with an interest so please keep us posted.

We are 10.7.16.1C on AIX 4.3.1...

Hi
Please refer Oracle Applications Upgrade manual. You may need to follow pre-upgrade and post -upgrade steps for each module. It is possible to upgrade RDBMS first then applications. You may need to call Oracle support to get platform specific patch sets for Oracle RDBMS. If you arr upgrading to 10.l7, Choose RDBMS 7.3.4.3 rather than 7.3.3. Number of bugs have been fixed in RDBMS 7.3.4.3 such as Flushing the shared pool etc. Contact Oracle support to get platform specific fixes.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me directly.

Thanks

Hi Hernawan,

I don't know about the possibility of upgrading to 7.3.3 while still on 10.6

It is possible that you can do the upgrade yourselves. (It could be finished in a weekend provided that you have already done a test upgrade and sufficient testing.)

The following points would determine the complexity of the upgrade project
1. Are there any customizations to the standard forms reports?
2. Custom developments / modules
3. Localizations being used

Mark,
I had the same problem. Just accept the error message, and when you run the Diagnostic Wizard it will tell you how to fix the problem. It is quite simple if you follow the instructions in the Diagnostic Wizard report. You may find that this error occurs may times during the install.

The workaround for this problem is as follows: (See bug number 902635 for complete details).

MSVBVM50.DLL is installed in the Windows System directory. The defaults are:
. Windows 95 - WINDOWS\SYSTEM
. Windows NT - WINNT\SYSTEM32
The correct version of MSVBVM50.DLL can be found in the %ORACLE_HOME%\GLDI90\SUPPORT directory as the file MSVBVM50.DL_.

1. Rename the existing MSVBVM50.DLL file in the Windows System directory to MSVBVM50.ORG.
2. Copy the file MSVBVM50.DL_ to the Windows System directory.
3. Rename the file MSVBVM50.DL_ in the Windows System directory to MSVBVM50.DLL.
4. De-install ADI
5. Re-install ADI. All files will now be correctly register and ADI will launch without the error appearing.

If you do not want to do this manually, you should request patch number 882165.

Subject: APPS 10.7 SC: Upgrade RDBMS 7.3.3 -- 7.3.4 on Solaris

Dear friends,

To make the Oracle RDBMS to be Y2K compliant, we are trying to upgrade our Oracle Apps 10.7 SC running on Sun Solaris from RDBMS version 7.3.3 to 7.3.4. We are following the steps given in the Oracle white paper (A60700-01) dated March 98. The RDBMS upgrade went fine, but when we apply the interoperability patch we get the following error.

ld.so.1: FNDLIBR: fatal: libsunmath.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory

Oracle Tech Support has been working this issue for over a month now. Went back and forth a few times. No resolution yet.

Has anyone done this type of upgrade on Solaris? If it was successful, can you share with us the steps you followed.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Palanisamy,

For yr info, 7.3.4 does not use libsunmath.so.1 anymore. The problem u're facing is because u have not do a complete relink of all yr apps file.

Try doing "adrelink force=y ranlib=y all" in the apps directory before executing adpatch.

Not sure if this helps. However, I've got the file in directory /opt/SUNWspro/lib

I have environment settings including
CC=/opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc

I think it is set up when
$APPL_TOP/APPLSYS.env calls
$FND_TOP/fndenv
which calls
$FND_TOP/usrxit/devenv

I honestly have no idea what all this means, but I hope it helps.

I have done much of the prep work as I am trying to become fully Y2K compliant. With any Oracle patches, you should be able to apply module by module. **With the caveat: Any module dependencies must be considered **

For example, the MRP Y2K patches are dependent upon FND patch set 4. Therefore, FND - 4 must be applied before I can move on to MRP.

Basically: *very* careful review the of the readme's and the inherent dependencies must be considered. I took it one step further: I called EACH group at Oracle and logged a TAR to discuss the patch requirements. This was a bit tedious, but I believe I am going in with my eyes just a little wider open.

HTH
Good luck in your upgrade!!!

No. The Dev2K Patchset 4 is not a part of the 11.0.2 patchset you receive from Oracle. If you want or need it you can request if from Oracle Support.

The Dev2K Patchset is a Database level upgrade so it will do all modules at once.

The database engine is one part of the equation. The Forms server is a another part.

The Forms Server is dependent on the database for some libraries (so it would have to be re-linked after the upgrade), but it is basically a separate product.

I would suggest you would be pushing things uphill with a fork to carry out an effective rel 11 migration by the end of the year.

I think there may be Y2K patches for 11 as well. Granted the format of the Y2K page on Metalink is not to my mind logical, I transpose this into a module by module list in an Excel spreadsheet so I can add comments, e.g. for receivables the required level is P, I note that I applied P on x date and that the latest set is Q.

I have just noticed that the Y2K patch list has changed format. I don't believe it, module by module with information on the individual bug and the mega patch is was included in. Well done to Oracle.

If you are a using OE or PO you also have implementation and training for delivery based shipping and Workflow to consider plus other new functionality for 11.

Graham.

You still need to apply Y2k patches on 11.0.3. If you want to check, please see ORACLE's Metalink ( preferrably Ver 2.0 ). and search for Y2k patches on 11.0.3.

We did this UPGRADE 4 times for the past one for different databases.

there is a problem in our efforts to migrate OA 10.7 SC instances to 10.7 NCA. We have implemented forms which are using the OLE features of the OA standard libraries to export data to MS Winword. Third-party controls like OLE are not available in D2K 1.x or 2.x Server. Does anybody know how to solve the problem in NCA? I think there could be a solution using the mime types facilities in the browser.

10.5 to 11 - Vendor Bank info Migration

Date: Tue, 24 Aug 1999 21:00:01 +0100
From: Milos.Martinovic@slovnaft.sk
Subject: Vendor Bank Info Migration

Hi, all

The upgrade manual for rel11, the section Payables enlists one step that must be done if upgrading from 10.5 to 11.0 (this is our case): (actually two of them)
pre-upgrade = Upgrade Supplier and Supplier Site Bank Data
post-upgrade = Enter Supplier Bank Information

The first step creates just the text file with all necessary data and in the second all that data must be entered manually into Applications.

This process is very lengthy and given the migration time window that we have it is not clear if we are able to complete it before we go live with the upgraded database.

Has anybody been through this situation and found a better solution ?

Thanks for any input.

Hi Milos,

We did an upgrade from 10.7 to Release 11 and we also had to go through the same step.

And yes we got a text file from the Pre-Upgrade.

This is just in case you have a problem with the upgrade on the banks.

Specifically the structure of the SUpplier Bank Information has changed in Release 11 and care needs to be taken on that. Other than that there were no issues and actually the upgrade did take care of the change in schema (as it is supposed to).

However, if you have aeft payments to Suppliers, then your business process will need to change because we found that if we made a change to them our custom program for creating the EFT file was looking at the old schema and the changes were made in the new schema (modifications to the bank info of the suppliers).

We did not however face any problem with the Banks upgrade other than a single SUpplier whose bank info was lost!

CHeck in testing for all SUpplier related Bank data to be sure that the upgrade will not mess with that info. Make payments to EFT method to ensure this.
